Day 02: Nairobi – Naivasha
Breakfast at the Hotel. After the breakfast, depart Nairobi and travel west through the Kenya’s fertile highlands, where tea and coffee abound. Your panoramic journey ends at glistening Lake Naivasha, overnight at Loldia house. At Loldia House you’ll experience the life of Kenya’s early settlers, the pioneers who cleared the forests and first farmed the rich highlands.

Loldia ranch was established by a family who trekked by ox-wagon from South Africa a century ago. Today their descendants still own the land. The original farmhouse is managed for visitors by Governors’ Camps. It’s an ideal spot to relax, taste the pleasures of Kenyan country life and explore the Great Rift Valley.

Loldia House, built in the Second World War, nestles under ancient Acacia trees. Lush lawns run down to the shores of Lake Naivasha, the Great Rift Valley’s highest and purest lake. Indigenous plants and flowers fill the gardens. There are beautiful views of the dormant volcano, Mount Longonot. Wild animals roam free on the farm. Small antelope wander through the gardens. In the evenings hippo munch quietly by the waterside.

All meals and overnight.

Day 03: Lake Naivasha
After breakfast depart for Lake Nakuru National park. There after in the afternoon explore Lake Nakuru National Park on your game viewing drive. The park, coloured by a shimmering flamingo pink from thousands of the beautiful birds lining its shores, is a popular place with visitors as well as locals. Waterbuck are usually sighted along the lake shore, and this is the home of the Rothschild’s giraffe. Baboon, impala, buffalo, monkeys, warthog, impala, reedbuck and eland are also resident here. However, the main attractions are the rhinos. The park is a designated rhino sanctuary and it is one of the best places in Kenya to observe them. Both black and white Rhinos thrive here. Besides the greater and lesser flamingos, the park is home to many other species including, the Great crested Grebe, the black necked Grebe, little Grebe, Pelicans, Cormorant, African Darter, Egyptian Geese, night Heron, Fish Eagle, grey Heron, Marabou stork, Sacred and Hadada Ibis. Certainly the most frequented game reserve in Kenya.  Masai Mara is a magnificent landscape of open plains bisected by the Mara River and its tributaries, and punctuated by marshes and forests. This 650 sq kilometer reserve supports the highest density of game to be seen anywhere considering its size. During the seasonal migrations, Masai Mara is home to up to a million wildebeest and an equally impressive number of zebra that move into the area from neighboring Serengeti National Park, in Tanzania. The reserve is home to all the “big five” and it is also possible to observe; baboon, eland, ostrich, bat-eared fox, jackal, Cheetah, and the rivers abound with hippos and crocodiles.

Day 07: Lake Victoria
Full day enjoying recreational activities. Lapped by the waters of Lake Victoria, shaded by giant fig trees, and lost to the world, Mfangano Island Camp is an oasis of tranquility, an ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The island has just one road and no other hotels to disturb the peace. The only way to reach Mfangano Island is by light aircraft, an adventure in itself. You land on a dusty airstrip, and then it’s a short ride by speedboat to the camp. Your first view is of beautiful gardens set on a secluded bay. Lawns hug the waterline, flowerbeds and rock gardens surround the camp. Enormous boulders sit at the water’s edge, a perch for cormorants or giant monitor lizards to sun themselves.

All the buildings are in the local Luo tribal style, walls of smoothed mud and clay, grooves of thatch and banana leaf – cool and airy. The dining room and lounge are fanned by breezes from the lake. There are just six rooms. Each set close to the waters edge, decorated with local handicrafts. Bathrooms with modern fittings are finished in local stone. At night the sound of waves will lull you to sleep. If all you desire is to laze in the sunshine, each room has it’s own private veranda with sun beds.

There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied during your stay here at the lake-side beach of Victoria. A visit to the local village and learn about the Luo culture and the way they live and also visit the local schools. The most fantastic experience here will be the visit to the near-by rock at painting museum, visit to the local fishing villages, bird walks and skiing.

The food here is as fresh as can be, fished from the lake (hopefully by you!) or picked fresh from the island’s vegetable gardens and orchards.
